Correspondence

Marie reported on further correspondence with the Council re shared bikepaths.  Marie is preparing a grant application for $24,000 to the Department of Sport and Recreation and is waiting on a letter of support from the Council (Note after meeting: Received, MZ)  It will be lodged next week.

Community issues

Dunecare was unsuccessful with its application for a grant from the State Government for work along the banks of Candlagan Creek.  Fran Anderson has taken over the leadership of Dunecare and appealed for more helpers.  In addition to the regular Sunday afternoon working bees, she suggested that people may wish to adopt a small area of the dunes and look after it in their own time.  This would provide an alternative for those who find it difficult to come on the Sunday afternoons.  Two current tasks are to prevent the proliferation of paths through the dunes at Imlay and Massey Streets and also south of the toilet block at North Broulee.

Two Mynah birds have been caught in the area, totalling 7 for Broulee, with 75 caught in the district.  Report all sightings to Courtney at Council, who will contact Peter and John to provide traps.

Derek Anderson reported on meetings to discuss sea level rise in the area over the next 100 years.  Norm Lenehan, Sea Management Planner, addressed the meetings held in Broulee, Tuross, Narooma and Batemans Bay.

Shared pathways – Warren Sharpe congratulated BCA on its fund-raising.  Surveyors have covered from the Surf Club to Grant Street.  There are also white survey lines up to Clarke Street.  Action:  Marie will ask Council for the specs for the extension.  Proposed that a letter drop be made to residents in Heath St to see if they have any comments on the plan but considered to be premature without detailed specs.  There was some discussion about costs of the community funded extension up Heath St from Grant St to Broulee Village.  The grant application has estimated materials at $35,000 and labour at $35,000.  The labour costs of local concretors, etc will be donated.  (Note after meeting from Marie: After speaking at length to local firm, this does not seem to be the case so grant application was increased to $32,000 in total.)

Community events

Art on the Path – the two days were very successful.  Stallholders asked if we would hold another. The meeting agreed that the two currently held are enough.  Fund raising through raffles could target the Easter visitors.

Clean up Australia, Sunday 7 March – Dunecare will clean up the dunes, meeting at 9am at the Surf Club.  BCA and community members will also clean up along George Bass drive, meeting at 8.30am at the corner of George Bass and Broulee Road.

High Tea at Bodalla – a group of BCA members attended a high tea at Bodalla to raise funds for the Moruya pathway.  The afternoon at the CWA Hall raised over $1000.  It was a good opportunity to show solidarity with the Moruya Group who have offered to provide labour for our pathway.

Community Mosaic project – The Broulee Boardriders are supporting a plan to beautify Broulee with mosaics.  The first proposal is to cover the toilet block at North Broulee.  The meeting expressed support for the project.

Cyclists for Sustainability – a group of cyclists from Melbourne are passing through the area and were seeking support for their presentations on sustainability.  It was proposed that BCA would support a performance by the group at Broulee Primary. They are performing at Moruya High.  The $250 that we usually give to the school each year, in thanks for the use of the meeting rooms, could help to support a presentation if the school wish or can as usual be given to the school to assist with excursions.  Moved Marie Zuvich, seconded Derek Anderson.  Carried.

Other business

Bill McGarry congratulated Peter Louttit on his work organising the kerbside trees in Zanthus Drive that are now growing well.

Lindsay moved that BCA purchase a marquee (aprrox $200) for use at various functions, like Art on the Path.  Seconded Bill Reid and agreed by the meeting.

Derek moved that a new professionally made banner be purchased for BCA ($165).  Seconded Barbara Evans.  Carried by the meeting.

Special Presentation

Tim Clare, a chiropractor at Mossy Point, addressed the meeting.  He talked about the philosophy of his work, the wellness model of life, in which the spinal column and nervous system have a vital role.  He works on the basis of payment according to what one can afford.  He is involved in the cycling group and is keen to stage a bike ride from headland to headland in the future.

Next Meeting – the Executive will meet in mid-March to discuss the progress of the pathways project. Next General Meeting: 7pm Thursday 20 May
